The proposed WaikatoRegional Policy Statement (RPS) requires the Waikato Regional Council (WRC) to adopt a catchment-based approach to the management of water resources in the region. Policy 8.4 specifies a range of considerations for identifying catchments for intervention, including legislative obligations, what is physically possible, the values at risk, and the net benefit to the community. Method 8.4.1 states that WRC will undertake an assessment of water body catchments to determine a priority order for catchment intervention.
Work has started to evaluate the use of WISE as one of the tools to assist in policy development for freshwater management in the Waikato region.
